    Dr Michael Edmonds is the Manager for the Biomolecular Interaction Centre (BIC) at the University of Canterbury where he supports research strategy, operational delivery, and engagement across science, engineering and health sectors. He leads coordination of institute operations, researcher support, and external partnerships, ensuring BIC’s facilities, collaborations, and research activities run efficiently and effectively. Michael’s role strengthens connections between UC researchers, industry partners, and national research networks, enabling high‑quality, impactful biomolecular research. Michael has a PhD in chemistry, a Masters degree in organisational psychology and Graduate Diploma in Management. He is one of the Canterbury Network leads for the New Zealand Product Accelerator (NZPA) and is the president of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry for 2025 to 2026 (inclusive).

    Volker Nock is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering whose work advances New Zealand’s capability in micro‑ and nanosystems, microfluidics, and Lab‑on‑a‑Chip technologies. His research enables new ways to study biomolecular interactions in plants and animals, supporting innovations in disease detection, biocontrol, and environmental resilience.

     

    A Rutherford Discovery Fellow and long‑standing Principal Investigator with the MacDiarmid Institute and the Biomolecular Interaction Centre, he has led national research programmes in reconfigurable systems and biosecurity innovation. His group’s technologies contribute to improved understanding of biological function and the development of next‑generation diagnostic and sensing platforms.
