Description

The UC fluid mechanics laboratory supports undergraduate teaching, postgraduate research, and staff research. Facilities range from traditional large-scale flumes for open channel flow simulations, to smaller-scale tanks and flumes used for environmental fluid mechanics research. The laboratory utilises advanced optical techniques for quantitative measurement of flow properties, including laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and particle tracking velocimetry (PTV), requiring blackout conditions and specialised light sources (e.g., Coherent Verdi G-Series laser). Equipment includes: · 10 m long, 470 mm wide modular Perspex flume. · 7.5m long, 260 mm wide, 500 mm deep Perspex flume, primarily for environmental fluid mechanics research. · 5.3 m long, 270mm wide, 400 mm deep tilting flume. · Water hammer experimental apparatus.
