BIO
Andy Howell is a Senior Lecturer in Active Tectonics and Geomorphology at Te Kura Aronukurangi | School of Earth and Environment, University of Canterbury. Before that he spent several years as an earthquake geologist and numerical modeller at Te Pū Ao | GNS Science. His research combines paleoseismology, geodesy, remote sensing and physics-based earthquake simulation to understand how faults and subduction zones deform the landscape, and what that means for seismic, tsunami and coastal hazard in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Andy is PI on a Marsden Fast Start grant on the threat from subduction-crustal earthquakes. He also leads the vertical land movement research aim of the Te Ao Hurihuri, Te Ao Hou (Our Changing Coast) Endeavour programme, and contributes earthquake geology experties to the National Seismic Hazard Model.
