BIO
Associate Professor Joya Kemper is a specialist in sustainable, ethical, and healthy consumption and production, with expertise spanning behaviour change, social and institutional change, and sustainable marketing. Her research focuses on four core areas:
- Sustainable marketing and marketing for good (circular economy, waste reduction, sociopolitical activism)
- Sustainable and healthy eating (meat reduction, alternative proteins, future foods)
- Social change (behavioural, organisational, and institutional transformation)
- Education for sustainable development.
She has published more than 50 peer‑reviewed articles in leading journals in marketing, sustainability, food systems, and social change. Her work is supported by major national and international funding, including an OECD Fellowship on food waste at Wageningen University (2023), a $1.2m Health Research Council project on alcohol warning labels (2021–2024), and roles as an Associate Researcher on three MBIE Endeavour Programmes: an $11.7m circular economy for plastics initiative (2022–2027), a $9.7m circular economy for grape marc programme (2023–2028), and an $8.7m precision biocontrol/phage solutions project (2025–2028).
Her research directly supports sector needs in sustainable consumption, healthy and sustainable food systems, environmental behaviour change, and circular economy innovation, providing evidence‑based insights for government agencies, industry partners, NGOs, and international organisations working toward more sustainable, equitable, and resilient systems.
