RESEARCH INTERESTS

Simon’s research focuses on generating actionable, evidence‑based insights that support transport agencies, councils, and central government to make informed decisions about future mobility. His interests include the use of spatial analytics, GIS modelling, and longitudinal travel datasets to understand how infrastructure, land‑use patterns, and policy settings shape mobility outcomes. He works extensively on active transport network performance, safety modelling, and the design of interventions that increase uptake and reduce harm. Simon also investigates transport equity and accessibility, providing frameworks that help agencies identify and address transport disadvantage and improve access to essential services.

His work on low‑carbon transport transitions includes evaluating mode‑shift levers, emissions‑reduction scenarios, and the policy tools required to support national and regional climate commitments. He is additionally interested in school and youth mobility, public health impacts of transport systems, and the role of emerging mobility technologies in shaping long‑term urban futures. Across all areas, Simon’s research is grounded in practical application, cross‑agency collaboration, and the development of decision‑support tools that enable robust, transparent, and future‑focused transport planning.
