TEACHING & SUPERVISION SUMMARy

Simon teaches at all levels (100 level to PhD). This includes: GEOG106 Global Environmental Change; GEOG222 Transport, Urban Development and Wellbeing; and GEOG309 Research for Resilient Environments and Communities. He also created the Master of Urban Resilience and Renewal. A key feature of his teaching is community-engaged and problem-based learning. In 2005 he won a University of Cannterbury Teaching Award. Part of the citation read "Simon is an exponent of problem-based learning. This approach is used to excellent effect in research papers which involve external agencies. Assessment is developed in similar fashion, to be relevant to what students might do after they leave university".
