    FRIENZ - Facilitating research and innovation cooperation between Europe and New Zealand

    The FRIENZ project, supported by the European Commission through its seventh research Framework Programme (FP7) in partnership with the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), seeks to develop strategic research, science and innovation partnerships between Europe and New Zealand. FRIENZ builds on two previous funded EU/NZ bilateral relationship projects – ACCESS4EU:NZ and FRENZ – providing information, guidance and support to organisations in both Europe and NZ with regard to bilateral cooperation opportunities funded through EC, NZ and member state programs. With FRIENZ, the department of Geography established a collaboration with ABE in Aalto University, supporting the visit of Finish fellow researchers to New Zealand in December 2015, and the visit of fellow researchers from New Zealand to Finland in June 2016. The objective of both visits was to disseminate research and explore the collaboration opportunities focusing the development and implementation of geospatial tools for urban planning decision-making.
